Why raster artwork causes problems
Raster images — JPG, PNG, GIF, screenshots — are grids of pixels. Enlarge one and the edges turn soft and jagged. Printers cannot separate its colours cleanly, cutters and engravers cannot follow its outlines, and digitizers have to guess where each shape really ends.
Vector artwork describes shapes mathematically, so it scales to any size with perfectly sharp edges. That is why screen printers, embroiderers, sign makers and engravers ask for vector files, and why a good redraw is often the first step before any other production work.
